This is an astonishing and extremely rare $20.00 Gold Certificate. Even more rare and uncommon than the more widely recognized Silver certificate Currency, these gold Certificates are nearly impossible to find.
A gold certificate in general is a certificate of ownership that gold owners hold instead of storing the actual gold. It has both a historic meaning as a U.S. paper currency (1863–1933) and a current meaning as a way to invest in gold.
Once redeemable for gold on demand, U.S. Gold Certificates are among the most sought after of all paper currency. The small-size notes of Series 1928 and 1934 are much more scarce than previous large-size notes issued over a longer period.
- Rendered obsolete by Franklin Roosevelt’s Gold Recall Order of 1933
- Bears the obligation TWENTY DOLLARS IN GOLD COIN PAYABLE TO THE BEARER ON DEMAND
- Face depicts Andrew Jackson with gold serial numbers and seal, reverse features White House
