Introducing the 500 VietNam Dong banknote, commonly read as 500 VND. The 500 VND banknote is currently the third smallest denomination of VietNam Dong in printed circulation. The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) first issued the Dong on May 3rd, 1978, stemming from the replacement of the divided Hao and Xu currencies. Today, there is a total of 13 different VND banknote denominations in circulation, ranging from the 100 Vietnam Dong note, up to 500,000 VND, and the 500 VND banknote shown here.
The Vietnam Dong was issued in 1978 to replace the Hao and Xu currencies after they were re-denominated to meet needs of inflation, then later removed. The Dong has since held its value after as the official currency of Vietnam. Since 2012, the use of VND coins in day-to-day commerce has decreased greatly, although they are still recognized as legal tender. To date, the Dong has experienced two revaluations, the first being in 1951 and the last being in 1959; the first VND revaluation was at a rate of 100:1, while the second RV was at 1,000:1 valuation.
Though the Vietnam Dong is a monetized currency in Vietnam, because of the constant failed attempts to become recognized as a global currency manipulator, the Vietnam Dong is not widely accepted as a monetary instrument throughout the world. As a result, the Vietnam Dong holds only a collectible value throughout many countries. The VND banknotes have become extremely popular among collectors world wide, especially in the United States.

Coat Of Arms of Vietnam Socialist Republuc. "Cong Hoa Xa Hoi Chu Nghia Vietnam" printed on top of these Notes, stands for: "
Socialist Republic of Vietnam". Ho Chi Minh to the right.
REVERSE: Haiphong Port; The Haiphong port is one of the largest ports in Viet Nam, and south-east Asia as a whole. The Haiphong port played an integral part in the economic stability of Viet Nam. Established in 1876, over 142 years of development, the Hai Phong port is considered the important border gate to exchange for Viet Nam.
Haiphong, or Hai Phong, is a major industrial city and the third-largest City in Viet Nam. Hai Phong is also the center of technology, economy, culture, medicine, education, science and trade in the Red River Delta of Viet Nam. The name Haiphong means “coastal defense”.
